We are seeking dynamic speakers, case study communicators, workshop wizards and passionate presenters from the following sectors:

  • Educators
  • Thought Leaders

Businesses who wish to participate should partner with colleagues in one of the above sectors.

Joint presentations and case studies encouraged!

How do we know if our museum practice, programming and engagement is truly making an impact – and how can we do better?

Do you have a project at your children’s museum which you can demonstrate has really made an impact in children’s lives? Can you share with others what worked, and how you did it? Tell us about it!

Are we raising children’s aspirations and helping them achieve their dreams and potential?

We all want our work to help children, but it’s really hard to know once they’ve left the building, or programme, whether our work helped them achieve their potential or their dreams in the long run. If you have experience of designing or running a programme which can show the part we can play (however small) in helping children build aspirations and achieve their potential – we want you!

How do we know if we’re really inspiring curiosity and a lifelong love of learning? Is this too much to aim for?

It’s a lofty ambition, but one which many of us aspire to achieve in our facilities and programmes. Have you designed an exhibition, facilitated a schools or youth engagement programme which has set out some really ambitious goals? Did you reach them? Fancy sharing the highs and lows of your experience?

How can we fill gaps left by a formal education system that may no longer meet today’s needs?

There are so many ways to inspire our children outside of school, to improve their self-esteem, raise their happiness levels and build resilience – what is the role of children’s provision in museums and informal learning spaces to support all of our children to be the best version of themselves. What have you done to build up your communities?

Proposal Formats:

Themed session

This is the main type of conference session. It is designed for topics that feature an array of presenters from diverse perspectives, generally from multiple organisations. Themed sessions are around 45 minutes in length and should generally have no more than 5 presenters.

Interactive workshop

This format puts activities directly in the hands of attendees and the sessions last 45mins and should be a mixture of short introduction and a participatory activity – the more playful the better!

Lightning talk

This format is ideal for when proposers have a story to share, but not a complete themed session proposal with multiple perspectives. Lightning presentations are short talks or discussions of 10–15 minutes that will be combined with other, similar Lightning presentations.

Ideas for other formats will be considered – please just let us know what you’d like to do!

Membership of HandsOn International is not required to submit a session proposal
nor to be a presenter. We welcome submissions from those at all career stages and in all roles.
