Venue Spotlight:
St George’s Hall

Conveniently situated in the heart of Liverpool and just across from Lime Street Station, St George’s Hall is a neoclassical marvel with a rich history (and some serious style). Built in 1854, it started as a hub for music festivals and a place where Victorian justice was served—and it’s been the pride of the city ever since.

Once inside delegates will experience interior architecture which is a reflection of the ostentatious display that Victorian Liverpool had, with a ceiling supported on massive red granite columns and figures portraying art, science, fortitude and justice. Look beyond the gold leaf and porticoes in the Great Hall and you’ll see St Georges Hall is home to the greatest brick arches in the world and houses a breath-taking Minton tiled floor of over 30,000 mosaic tiles.

The Hall is also home to the third largest organ in the UK with 7737 pipes completed in 1855 by the legendary (if you’re an organ fan) Liverpool organ builders Henry Willis & Sons – a company still going strong today. For those interested, the largest organ is also in Liverpool and is in the Anglican Cathedral with a whopping 10,268 pipes. (Serious  organ envy?).

Upstairs is the famed Concert Room, which Charles Dickens no less once declared as “the most perfect room in the world.” With sparkling chandeliers and statues that seem plucked straight from ancient Greece, it’s a regal yet intimate space—perfect for the conference’s keynote sessions and the Children in Museums Awards.

But head downstairs, and it’s a whole different vibe. The Hall’s lower levels house Victorian prison cells and courts, where justice (and likely some serious drama) unfolded. Today, “The History Whisperer™” experience brings this shadowy past to life, led by a young guide named Livie. You’ll learn about life in Victorian Liverpool and uncover hidden stories at the touch of a wall. It’s eerie, fascinating, and a stark contrast to the glitz above.

Tickets to join the short tour are well worth it and will be available with your conference booking.

St George’s Hall is more than just a beautiful building—it’s a place where stories are told and histories are shared.

Its layers of both grandeur and grit mirror the essence of ‘Making a Difference,’ reflecting the power of cultural spaces to connect people, inspire imagination, and transform perspectives. Just as the Hall has evolved to remain at the heart of Liverpool life, so too can museums and cultural venues redefine their roles to improve the futures of children and young people, creating a lasting impact for generations to come.
